Quiz: Identify the Player From Their Visualised Scoring Record

Can you identify a footballer from their career scoring record? I’ve converted players’ league goal stats into lovely colourful bar chart type things. The nineteen players featured have all scored at least 100 goals in the Premier League (although the inclusion requirement counts only Premier League goals, goals scored in the old First Division are shown to give the full picture of players’ league careers).
Each season is represented by a bar, the height of which shows the number of goals the player scored that season. Here’s a labeled example:

The correct answer here is, of course, Darren Bent who, having not yet scored 100 top flight goals, is not in the quiz below.

The colours of the bars represent the teams. They’re meant to be intuitive (they’re mostly the main colour of each team’s shirt) but here’s a key if you want it:

I know a lot of the teams’ colours look very similar (particularly the reds and blues) – that’s part of the challenge.
For the answer to each image just hover your cursor over “hover for ANSWER”. If you get stuck “hover for HINT” to confirm the teams involved.

1. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

2. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

3. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

4. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

5. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

11. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

12. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

13. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

14. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

15. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

16. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

17. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

18. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

19. hover for HINT    –    hover for ANSWER

Excellent little quiz, enjoyed it and shared with friends

  2. Thanks, glad you liked it. Did you struggle with any of them?

  3. very nice. simple when using the hint. difficult without.

  4. Jonny says:

Got all 19 of them. Struggled for a bit on 11,17 and 18 but worked them out after a while. Nice little quiz

  5. Good fun. One note on the ‘similar colours being part of the challenge’ thing though; not everyone will have the colours on their monitor calibrated the same as yours! So on many monitors colours with slight differences will look exactly the same…

Enjoyed it though. I got most of them, though I had to use the hints a few times for the colours.

    • Good point, I hadn’t thought about monitor differences, but I was kind of counting on people not being able to tell colours apart – I think a lot of people would find it too easy if you could tell them all apart with certainty.
Given that, I probably shouldn’t have included a key. I mostly did that to avoid “What!? You never said Leeds was yellow” etc. (I made Leeds yellow as it’s difficult to force variety into the teams that play in white as there aren’t really shades of white; everything else is grey).

  6. Excellent Quiz! Really unique makes it even more fun🙂

Did cheat by seeing which club represented which colour, almost got most/more than half of them right. I can’t believe I forgot Robbie Fowler!

  7. Andrew says:

Cracking game, the only one that had me totally stumped was 17. Any chance of any more?
